Our Jam Sessions utilize collaborative music making to encourage adult participants to engage and connect through actively making music. In Jam Sessions, the Hausmann Quartet brings together string quartet repertoire and the music for wellness activities of the music therapy organization Resounding Joy, led by internationally recognized expert in the field, Barbara Reuer, PhD.
The Hausmann Quartet serve as mentors and coaches to oversee lively jam sessions which engage participants in positive, creative music making while responding to the participants’ musical experience. Instruments used include rain drums, paddle drums, buffalo drums, tambourine, djembe, doumbek and versa drums with acoustic boxes, boomwhackers and egg shakers. No prior musical experience is required from participants.
Jam Sessions are made possible in part through the Hausmann Quartet’s work with Art of Elan as community engagement partners.
We recently completed a series of sessions at the San Diego Rescue Mission (120 Elm Street, San Diego, CA 92101), and look forward to returning in September.
A series of Jam Sessions was also held at the Centro Cultural de la Raza in Balboa Park, in partnership with the Chicano Federation and Gente Unida.
Sessions at Veterans Village of San Diego (4141 Pacific Highway, San Diego, CA 92110) are currently on hold due to the public health situation, but we hope to return soon. If you’d like to support VVSD’s music program, which is facing significant funding challenges, you can do so here.
