The Hausmann Quartet is pleased to announce its first Quarantine Composers Competition! During these uncertain times it is vital that music and art continue to be supported and created. We hope to inspire emerging student, amateur, and professional composers to submit recent original works for an opportunity to receive prize money, performance opportunities and high-quality recordings of reading sessions.

When: Compositions must be submitted with score and parts by June 30, 2020 to the Hausmann Quartet by emailing or sending copies to 4321 Aragon Way, San Diego, CA 92115.

What: An original composition written during 2019 – 2020 for string quartet of any length. Preference will be given to pieces that are easily adapted to online performance, deal with subject matter relevant to the current global crisis, works by BIPOC and those from historically under-represented groups.

Awards and opportunities: Selected works will include a $500 honorarium for the composer and an online performance of the piece, as well as an in-person public performance in the future (when public health guidelines permit). More than one piece may be selected, as well as multiple others to receive documentation (high-quality recording) of reading sessions for use by the composers for academic and professional applications as well as non-commercial promotion.
